It is interesting how many tend to mysticize things about the walk in Christ. Making it seem as though you need certain special powers or abilities to live the Christian life. Jesus Christ already dealt with all that and calls us to a life of simplicity and grace. For example he says to have eternal life; believe and confess that Jesus is Lord of your life and that God raised him from the dead. Seems simple right?
Romans 10:9 (NASB)
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
This is not by works or your own effort of righteousness. Where you say I have been good in the sight of God and men; so I have eternal life. This may sound foolish: ‘believe and confess’, but that is actually where the power of God is. He uses the simple things.
Don’t try to help God to do His works in your life. He is able to make His word come to to pass in your life if you will trust, follow and love Him, knowing that He is faithful to His word. It is the simple things that are effectual. Some other examples include:
Love God and have faith in Him (trust) & Diligently seeking Him
Hebrews 11:6 (MSG)
It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.
Pray without ceasing & Speaking in Tongues
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (LIV)
Always keep on praying.
Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
Give thanks
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (MSG)
thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.
Fellowship with other Christians and going to church
Hebrews 10:25 (LIV)
Let us not neglect our church meetings, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.
Tithing and giving
Malachi 3:10 (LIV)
Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so that there will be food enough in my Temple; if you do, I will open up the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing so great you won’t have room enough to take it in! “Try it! Let me prove it to you!
Obedience (goes with trust)
1 Samuel 15:22 (LIV)
Samuel replied, “Has the Lord as much pleasure in your burnt offerings and sacrifices as in your obedience? Obedience is far better than sacrifice. He is much more interested in your listening to him than in your offering the fat of rams to him.
Meditate on the word
Joshua 1:8 (MSG)
And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed.
