In our walk and fellowship with God he talks to us. In this communion with Him are instructions for life.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
God has a personal plan for our (individual) lives which is tied to His will for our lives.
There’s God’s good will and His perfect will. His good will are those things that He has made general provisions for that are supported by His grace. For example when you do things according to His word and that are acceptable to Him even though He may not have specifically asked you to do them personally.
Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
For example to marry and have children and live a happy life are all part of the good will of God. And there’s nothing wrong with it.
But there is the perfect will of God that requires that you follow God and stick to his word with reckless abandon, not wavering. This leads to achieving and a specific outcome purposed by God for you. And in doing so, you achieve and obtain more than the provisions of the good will of God.
Ephesians 2:10 (AMP)
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].
In the Bible we see the partriachs of old and many might Men of God following a particular path and achieving certain results in their lives specific to them because of instructions and directions given to them by God.
Your life as a Christian is tied to the salvation of many more. What are the things that God has specifically asked you to do? The more you follow and obey His word, the more His voice becomes more real and acquainted to you. If you’re not sure what to do; ask the Holy Spirit for guidance to show you what to do and His plan for your life and follow through.
Ask with intention to follow; especially when His answer may sound contrary to your personal plans, ambitions and desires. For to obey is better…
