Clanging Cymbal

1 Corinthians 13:1 (AMP)
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God’s love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction].

Time and time again, the word of God admonishes us to love and walk in love towards All men. Not towards some people who are good to us, not only towards the people we like, not only towards our friends and family, but also towards those who annoy us, hurt us and also are mean towards us; all men.

The beautiful thing about this is; it is possible because the word of God and Spirit of God enables us to do so.

Matthew 5:44 (TPT)
However, I say to you, love your enemy, bless the one who curses you, do something wonderful for the one who hates you and respond to the very ones who persecute you by praying for them.

I love the scripture above because it instructs us in what to do; He didn’t say pray against those who persecute you, but pray for. Pray that it will be well with them, pray that they will come to the light of God. He didn’t place a condition on this; because many people pray for others selfishly; e.g. praying for others who persecute you so they will stop persecuting you. That is not the reason God asks us to do so.

Jesus said pray for them in spite of it all. In our everyday lives you find that bad things happen to good people and it falls on us to walk in love to show and express the love of God through our lives. Our opening scripture lets us know that if we do not walk in love; in the sight of God, we are like noise making instruments. Now you may wonder why some people do not receive answers to prayers and find their lives undulating.

I implore you to self assess; is there anyone you can’t stand the sight of? Anyone you wish you never met, anyone you never want to cross paths with, anyone you don’t want to be in the same place with, anyone who may have hurt you one way or the other or is still causing you pain and suffering? God says to you love them and pray for their well being. Let go of all the pain and mean it. Genuinely do this knowing that God loves them and wants it to be well with you and them as well.

Choosing to love others and to walk in love does more for you than it does for others. For some, the reason why they stop loving others is for fear that they will get hurt again. But Jesus says to us; forgive and love again and again.

1 John 4:18 (CEV)
A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows we have not really learned to love.

Luke 17:4 (TPT)
No matter how many times in one day your brother sins against you[a] and says, ‘I’m sorry; I am changing; forgive me,’ you need to forgive him each and every time.”

Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
