Many times in a day we have thoughts running through our minds and we find several times in the scriptures the importance of our thoughts and how they affect us. Your thoughts are powerful, they direct the course of your life. It is important that we think the right thoughts. Note however that not every thought comes from you. You get thoughts from your environment, the things you constantly see and observe, people you come into contact with and demons can also send thoughts into your mind. You cannot stop a bird from flying over your head but you can prevent it from perching on top of your head. That is to say we have the power to control what thoughts remain in our minds. The moment you think of something and dwell on it, it becomes your reality.
Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
It is easy to observe what is going on in the world right now and think of doom and gloom and personalize it, but we are admonished to constantly monitor our heart, scan it; and any thoughts that say contrary to God’s word about us; you don’t allow. It’s like how you switch a TV channel. The moment you say to yourself I don’t want to think about this, but rather my life is full of the goodness of God; you find yourself moving in that direction. Your thoughts have the ability to attract into your life what you dwell upon. So if you want to see good things in your life, continually think of those good things.
Philippians 4:8 (LIV)
…Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
